Dr. Ashok Jhunjhunwala is a renowned technologist, innovator, and academic leader with over four decades of experience in electrical engineering, telecommunications, renewable energy, and affordable technology innovation. He serves as an Institute Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and is widely recognized for pioneering industry-academia collaboration and deep-tech innovation in India.
Dr. Jhunjhunwala is best known for creating affordable and scalable technology solutions for India, including innovations in telecom, remote healthcare, solar-DC systems, banking technologies, and electric mobility. He played a pioneering role in establishing the IIT Madras Research Park, India’s first university-affiliated research park, which became a leading hub for industry-academia R&D collaboration and startup incubation.
Through the TeNeT Group and IITM Incubation Cell, he has incubated and mentored over 200 deep-tech startups across sectors including renewable energy, mobility, telecom, and digital technologies. His work in affordable electric vehicle technologies and sustainable energy systems has contributed significantly to India’s clean mobility and energy transition ecosystem.
