Dr. (Shri) Mohammad Rihan

Dr. (Shri) Mohammad Rihan is a distinguished academician, researcher, and energy expert with over two decades of experience in renewable energy, smart grids, and sustainable infrastructure development. He currently serves as the Director General of the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, contributing to India’s clean energy transition and solar innovation ecosystem.

Prior to his current role, he served as Professor of Electrical Engineering at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), where he led major initiatives in solar energy integration and smart grid technologies. He successfully spearheaded the integration of a 6.5 MWp solar photovoltaic plant within the campus distribution grid, one of the largest installations of its kind in an academic institution in India. He also founded and coordinated the Centre for Grid Integrated Green and Renewable Energy, focused on renewable energy research and grid modernization.


Dr. (Shri) Rihan has made significant contributions to research, policy, and academic innovation in green energy technologies, sustainable development, and climate-focused infrastructure. He has guided numerous research scholars, led sponsored research projects, and provided technical consultancy for smart city and power transmission initiatives across India.

As a Member of the NHEV Knowledge Group, Dr. (Shri) Rihan contributes strategic expertise in renewable energy integration, sustainable mobility, and future-ready clean energy infrastructure, supporting the development of energy-efficient and technology-driven transportation ecosystems in India.
