Dr. (Shri) Friederich Kupzog

Dr. Friederich Kupzog is a renowned researcher in smart grids, renewable energy integration, and digital energy systems, with extensive experience in sustainable energy research and innovation. He currently serves as Head of the Center for Energy at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, where he leads research and development initiatives focused on advanced energy systems, digital transformation, and smart infrastructure solutions.

He has been associated with AIT for more than a decade and previously led the “Power and Renewable Gas Systems” division. His work focuses on smart-grid technologies, digitalization of energy systems, renewable energy integration, and verification methods for interconnected energy infrastructures.


Dr. Kupzog holds a degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology from RWTH Aachen University and earned his Ph.D. in Smart Grids from TU Wien (Vienna University of Technology). Throughout his career, he has led pioneering research initiatives in smart-grid technologies, energy digitalization, and integrated energy systems, contributing to the advancement of Europe’s sustainable energy transition and next-generation energy infrastructure.

As a Member of the NHEV Knowledge Group, Dr. Kupzog contributes expertise in sustainable energy systems, smart infrastructure, and technology-driven mobility solutions supporting clean and future-ready transportation ecosystems.
